Woah! I had no idea someone made a special thread for Karlis! This should have been mentioned in the Gulbis forum since we have special threads where we talk & post pictures of the other Latvian players in there as well! :bounce: It's nice to give him his own thread!

Did you take those pictures yourself? Where are they from exactly? Love them!

Yes Karlis has many fans actually! :) I was lucky enough to meet him when he was with Ernests in Cincinnati last year. I got to watch him practice with Hernan Gumy a few times but I haven't been lucky enough to see him compete yet. I did watch his Davis Cup matches last Sept online. I would really love to see him play at the top level!

I'm sad to say Karlis has decided to retire from being a professional tennis player  He says he's been lacking motivation lately to get to the top 100 and also the many injuries he's had played a part in his decision. His future plans are not fixed yet but he wants to keep doing something tennis-related, probably coaching. Maybe get into a US college and/or tennis academy.

sportacentrs.com says they will have a longer interview with Karlis in a couple of days.

I'm still hoping he will hit with Ernests when he can, specially during the USA hard court season. And he said he wanted to coach so hopefully we'll see him coaching around on the ATP tour one day! :p I'm sad I didn't get to see him play Davis Cup for his country live but I'm happy I got to meet him and talk to him a little bit. He is a real nice guy. All the Latvian players seem really nice and friendly. Karlis and I were standing on the side waiting for Ernests to get done with autographs and a girl had a "I <3 Gulbis" shirt and Karlis told her he liked her shirt. She smiled and said thank you but clearly didn't know who Karlis was and didn't seem that interested. I of course found that really adorable.

Looks like he is playing! GOOD LUCK KARLIS! Friend Nadia told me that he would have had to sign up on site so that's great! I'm so happy to hear he is playing and this is so unexpected since he said he "retired". I know he said he might play little tournaments every now & then but I didn't think he'd enter an ATP event! Hopefully being with Ernests it will fuel his fire a bit more this summer! Now Karlis, just enter Cincinnati & make me the happiest fan girl! :yeah:
