I think a young Lithuanian tennis player Laurynas Grigelis (born 14/08/1991) deserved his own thread. He has just won his first Futures title at the Great Britain F13 .
This year Laurynas made a real breakthrough jumping from 1560 to 600 in the ATP rankings.
His best results:
- Winner at the Great Britain F13
- Semifinal at the Italy F26 and Spain F22
- Quarterfinal at the Spain F21, Great Britain F9, France F18
- 2nd round at the Binghamton Challenger (beat Jerzy Janowicz).
Laurynas lives in Italy and trains at the Future Talent Brusaporto tennis centre in the province Bergamo. His coaches - William Rota and Roberto Manenti.
Not much luck getting Evgeny Donskoy in the first round at the Monza Challenger, with Laurynas falling 1-6 2-6. Better times will come. Hang in there, Laurynas!
Only one seeded player got through to the quarter finals in Antalya, Turkey. Unfortunately, it wasn't Laurynas, going down to Jiri Kosler. Better times are sure to come. Sekmes, Laurynai!
Laurynas has won through the qualies at the Turkey F15 in Antalya and is now the 5th seed in the main draw. He is also in the doubles pairing up with Stoppini. Buona fortuna! Sekmes!
Hard to believe, but Laurynas fell to Tuna Altuna (ATP 1057) in the first round. Let's hope this is just a hiccup in his recovery. He is however in the quarter finals of the doubles having beaten Neuchrist and Schulz in two tie-break sets with his partner, Andrea Stoppini. Hope Laurynas and Andrea make it to the semis.
When will Laurynas rise again? Even the Antalya doubles semis went missing. Perhaps it will be in Sanremo next week for him to show his true talents. I hope so!
Laurynas's loss at 5-7 3-6 in the second round to power-hitting Malek Jaziri was a courageous effort given the thrashing that Jaziri gave the 3rd seed Karol Beck, 6-1 6-3, in the first round. Best of luck next time, Laurynas!
Laurynas's first round opponent today in the Morocco Futures is Moroccan wildcard Talal Ouahabi, who is also a likely opponent for Laurynas in the Davis Cup Group II, Europe/Africa, relegation play-off on 8 July. An important test! Good luck, Laurynas!
Laurynas through to the quarter finals, having won in the 1st round 36 61 62, and in the 2nd round against Nicola Ghedin (ATP 813) 61 63. Now up against 8th seed, James McGee (ATP 661). Sekmes!
That's a easiest final i've ever seen :haha: Beisam had straight walk overs here. Grigelis new clay master
