Sharapova is probably coming back, along with her sexy ass.

Quote:
Wada said: “In the case of meldonium, there is currently a lack of clear scientific information on excretion times.

“For this reason, a hearing panel might justifiably find (unless there is specific evidence to the contrary) that an athlete who has established on the balance of probabilities that he or she ingested meldonium before 1 January 2016 could not reasonably have known or suspected that the meldonium would still be present in his or her body on or after 1 January 2016.

“In these circumstances, Wada considers that there may be grounds for no fault or negligence on the part of the athlete.”

You are plain stupid.

Meldonium was NOT a forbidden substance til 12.31.2015.

If Sharapova is charged with doping (what is very far to happen), it could only be for the 15 first days of 2016.

Taking non forbidden substance is not doping.

I can give my head to be cut that 100% of the top 1000 are taking non forbidden substances that enhance athletic performance.

Should be in the next days. Everything is going to be fine, she is "clean".

To be specific, what UKAD is investigating is the fact that they failed to act on information about Dr Bonar being a PED doctor:

Quote:
A drugs-cheat amateur cyclist who had his sentence cut by anti-doping chiefs is at the centre of explosive new claims that a doctor illegally treated 150 elite sportsmen, including Premier League footballers.

Dan Stevens, 39, is believed to be the sportsman who tipped off the UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) agency about private clinician Dr Mark Bonar who he said was prescribing performance enhancing drugs to himself and other athletes.

When it failed to act on his dossier of evidence, the source tipped off a newspaper and Dr Bonar was secretly filmed describing a network of high-profile clients, including two professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing and squad members with Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City.

The taxpayer-funded UK Anti-Doping watchdog is now facing a Government inquiry after it emerged it was alerted about Dr Bonar in 2014.

Ukad is understood to have been handed two written prescriptions signed by Dr Bonar but officials failed to pursue the matter because he is not governed by a sporting body. They did not pass the information on to the General Medical Council.

British doping scandal incoming?

The Times article is behind a paywall but I'm sure you can find summaries of it around. Much of the fuss is about footballers, but as you can see from the cutline in the photo, tennis players are mentioned among his alleged clients.

There's a hidden camera video from the investigation where Dr Mark Bonar talks to someone he thinks is an athlete about using PEDs.

Those with access to the BBC iPlayer might want to watch a half hour piece on IAAF where Steve Cram goes to visit and interview Seb Coe about various issues for IAAF and athletics in general, and it coincided with Russia getting the ban. It wasn't the hardest hitting piece, what with Cram being fairly friendly with Seb, but I also think that helped Coe to relax a bit, and to give more access than if they'd sent a proper journalist. Paula Radcliffe also featured, and they discussed the anxieties and concerns of today's athletes, and how it was important that families should trust the sport enough to want to let their kids get involved.

It's called "Can Seb Coe Save Athletics", which is a bit of a leading title, and Coe is still fairly vain, but I do think he wants what is best for athletics, and for all of his faults, is probably the best person for the job right now. It was crazy-foolish for him to keep his Nike contract while in post, but it's all currently unpaid, which makes it worse. It seems they are pushing through some changes in the structure to make his particular role more meaningful, and I think making the key roles salaried, but time will tell.

There was also some stuff about how athletics needs to put more effort into its general promotion, so that the next generation of stars come through, and they are competing against each other more often, an take more advantage of social media to sell the sport. He listed football and tennis as being much better at that.

BBC iPlayer - Can Seb Coe Save Athletics?

I was wondering if they had more athletic meets, would that make doping more desirable to help them recover from injury and for stamina, or would that make it easier for anti-doping to keep track of them if they aren't hidden away at training camps for months on end?

Check out this article about the Gatlin signing, Nike's athlete sponsorship strategy and an alleged steroid program in the 1970s

Quote:
Julie Strasser, a former senior Nike executive who was the company’s first advertising manager and wife of the late Rob Strasser, one of the firm’s three founding fathers, tells me that Athletics West began examining steroids as a way of helping athletes’ recovery from workouts in the late 1970s. “Is it justifiable to do that when the other guy is cheating?” she asks, rhetorically. “I don’t believe steroids are cheating. It’s so important to get muscle, you know. People still have to train and put the work in, even if they take them.”

In her 1991 book Swoosh: the Unauthorised Story of Nike and the Men who Played There, Strasser chronicles how Nike strategy meeting minutes revealed Athletics West’s fascination with steroids as a training aid. She quotes insurance records detailing testosterone tests and liver function tests, undertaken by athletes there, to test the physiological effects of steroids. The coach who ran Athletics West at the time has denied steroid use.

It also notes they have dumped many "good role models" and are drawn to the more edgy and brash athletes. It kind of makes the decision to dump Sharapova so quickly even more bizarre (and really fuels the notion that it is linked to politics). Sharapova was considered aloof, with no friends on tour, and was filmed saying "Allez up your f*cking ass" to the French crowd at Roland Garros (they were cheering against her). She's definitely edgy and not so sweet.

Unless they are paving the way for a redemption story when they later take her back (as they took back Gatlin and Michael Vick)...
