This kid is just 17 and even though he may be far from the heights of Nadal, Monfils and Gasquet at such an age, Fognini is a real bright spot for Italian tennis.
Number 501 in the world you may think there is no big deal, but this year is his first main year and hes already won a futures event in SPain as well as being in the final of another in Italy. Now in the Olbia CHallenger event he is in the quarters beating Luzzi in round 2.
So With this result he will be in the top 500 for sure and will move up quite a few places. A few more succesful challengers and he should hopefully be recognised on the challneger tour!
And he beat Stepanek quite comfortably in straight sets. He seems to like this event more than any other of the tennis master series. He needed a good week here too.
Fabio lost in the qualifiers for Cincy, but he is the only Italian player to go over to America and play in these tournaments which is good for him, but a shame for Italian tennis overall.
Unfortunately he served very poorly against Becker, I think there were 13 dfs. But I agree, it was good to play these tournaments on hard court. Forza Fabio!
Back on the clay in Genova and at least he has gone to the SF of the challenger. Now against Seppi to dangerous opponent. Fabio is strange on the hard courts, he can be very good, or suck very much, but for sure he can play well on them if in the mood.

Fabio is workinng now with Argentine coach Pablo Martin and it looks like the cooperation is working well. Fabio won the tournament in Napoli today, congrats
Well, it was not a very beautiful end of the match....I was only waiting for them to hitting each other...And now they have to play each other next week in Brazil, so the drama may continue. I am very happy with Fabio's week in Santiago! Hope he continues to play on this level the next weeks. Forza!
Wild Card to the Rome Masters, he needs to win at least a match here for his confidence before RG, hopefully the draw is good.
