Re: Spring '10: Miami!

Jo was a real threat for Nadal when Nadal was in best Nadal form - in 2008? they played sp close and thriller matches...
Now Nadal is not so good - and Jo lose him easily: Bercy and now.

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

He did not outplay him at all until he generously gave away his own serve. On the contrary. he was holding comfortably and constantly threatening to break and than just

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

He came out playing well. Was even hitting casual backhand winners. Looked nervous but reasonably focused. Had a lot of break point chances in the opening game, but was way too passive on some of them and Rafa played really well to save the others. After missing break points in a couple of return games, Jo imploded. The backhand broke and he became tentative, got broken. Complained to the umpire about Rafa taking too much time (which was true), got into an argument. He had chances to break right back. Couldn't and got broken while serving to stay in the set.

Got broken early in the 3rd. More missed break points, same story. Up 6-3 5-2, Rafa played out of this world to break again for the match.

0/8 on break points. That's the most important stat.
Jo needs to learn to cut out distractions and be patient. Rafa would/could have out-played him anyway, but the match could have been a lot closer than 6-3 6-2.

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

So disappointing 0/8 on BPs and way to many walkabouts on his own serve, pretty much beat himself

Not Before 9:00 PM
[8] J Tsonga (FRA) vs [4] R Nadal (ESP) - ATP

So that is 3am CET... I don't think I'll be watching, cause I have exams this week Too bad, I would have loved to see this one. Allez Jo-willy

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

Yesterday's performance against Ferrero reminded me why I love Jo's brand of tennis. He had it all going:
-explosive serves (did he really hit 148 and 151mph a couple of times?)
-attacking forehands
-solid backhands (this shot has improved significantly and he's defending better from that side); and
-(gasp) returns of serve - he's getting good balls into play and looking to take control from there

Really happy with his performance. Did not have those moments of madness where he loses serve through silly errors. Will need more of the same against Nadal who, as we know, never says die.

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

When did this start and finish? I'm an idiot to miss. Allez Jo! I'll be very angry with myself if this match that I missed was one of those smashes and exploding forehands parades
I saw that hush-hush comment on his website but I thought it was said in a tongue in cheek attitude

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

That was so solid from Jo. He was defending really well patiently and knew when to go for the kill. Serve was wonky but served big when it mattered. Under an hour and 6-2 6-2. I'm encouraged.

Also, did you all see this on Jo's website?

How do you feel physically ?

I fell good physically, a bit better than in Indian Wells, I’ve worked well in between these two event but I do not wish to comment on what I’ve worked on as I don’t want my opponents to know.

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

Jo beat JCF 6-2 6-2 I didn't know Jo was going to be playing so early so I didn't see it But the score looks solid

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

Jo's energy level was much better last night. Besides the hiccup in the second set (Kohli was playing much better and Jo tended to go for the "flair") it was pretty comfortable match.

Wino looked miffed at times, but maybe it was because it was so late.

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

Glad to see he won comfortably last night, I got too tired and had to get some sleep in the end. I like his chances against Ferrero a lot more than against Isner and his serve ¬__¬

Re: Spring '10: Miami!

vs Ferrero better be at a decent hour... I tried to wait up last night but it did not start and I was too sleepy. nice UE number. I watched a bit of Ferrero-Isner last night. He was good but not exceptional.
