The key is the patience which used to be his biggest weapon. Gilles set his standards too high too soon instead of consolidating his level of the end of 2008 (I agree with that, and I think Tulasne really has his share of responsibility here too).
Thanks for the link! it's not that often that I happen to agree with him ^^
Disparaging his "old game" as "plan B" like Gilles did in one of his interviews says a lot about the negativity that has done his head wrong.

That's good ol' WLT for you. they're never shy of writing such enormities.

He was touching his arm/shoulder when he was serving yesterday, by the way, but since he's going to have a couple of weeks off, I guess he will be fine. He was more like in training during the doubles match anyway and he's much more "expansive" then, it doesn't have to be anything serious.

I guess everybody agrees on that basic pattern. Of course it's easier to win when nobody expects you to win, when you have nothing to lose, etc. In all the radio interviews he gave during the off season they were asking him about the fact that he was going to be a walking target on the tour as a top 10 player during the next season and how he was going to deal with this situation, etc.
But there are more specific factors then which certainly make it particularly difficult for him to back up his good results. His situation as an "overachiever/intruder into the top 10" is quite different from Djokovic's or Wawrinka's imo.

Re: 2009 Clay season

thanks fran for the summary of hamburg.

Now lets hope this clay season is over and he will be back in US as last year.
but this non good season can help him next year, somehow he is not the first and not the last that faced problem to confirm a good year. But whatever is ranking, i just want to watch him enjoying matches, the rest will come with

btw te us open tournament published the list of seaded players, he will be number 7...

The scoreline must look like they tanked, but they didn't! Flo was quite angry when he missed a shot badly and Gilles was obviously trying too. I think Florent is even a bit worse. I was really wondering during the match how the hell they won those matches in the past, it's not like Cermak-Mertinak were doing anything amazing.
ah ok I'll change my post then

Oh, and I agree with every single point made by Natsume about his slump.

Re: 2009 Clay season

I asked everybody I talked to about the Brandy match, but nobody had seen it. The only information I got is that the ambiance was really great (by German standards, I guess) and the crowd was cheering for Brands like crazy.
Brandy says in the German media that he played the best tennis of his life.

Lilibel just told me that she was there on that day, maybe she saw the match and can tell us more when she's back.
L'Equipe only says that Gilles refused to say anything when they wanted to have his post-match reaction ("not tonight").
