Re: Your expectations for Marin in 2013

Bit of interesting facts for the current season:

Matches played: 20

W-L: 15 - 5

Titles: 1

Aces: 150 - i like this one, 13th overall in number of aces. For someone that is constantly trashed for bad serve it's not too bad.

First serve in %: 55% - needs to improve to 60%.

52% 2nd return serve points won - one of the best on the tour

66% BP's saved- can improve

43% BP converted - not that bad

Re: Your expectations for Marin in 2013

He should be number 10 before Rg because he will need to win 10 points more than Tipsarevic in that period and Janko is in bad forem.
He could become number 8 after Wimbledon. For that goal he will need to win 20 points less then tsonga in that period and 340 more than Gasquet. But Tsonga will rise his level like he always do and Gasquet is in better form than Marin.

I am also optimistic, e.g., I think there are lots of positives for Marin to take out from that Murray match, although he did lose it in two sets. But realistically, I think a top-10 finish for 2013 would be a good goal.

step by step :-) if he can do it against the lower half of top 10 first, good, he'd gain confidence. and then maybe against the top 4.

I think it's very good that he doesn't easily lose his cool, whatever happens on court. it'll help him later on.

Misty, it will be always the same. It was 5 years ago a.d it will be in the future, too. He will have some semis run over top players like he had at AO but not on the regular basis.

Its frustrating because murray is definately not a mismatch for him , he's demonstrated he has the game to really take it to murray but he's in his head now. I dont want him to be one of those players that lacks the belief that he can beat the top guys because he can. Someone needs to work on that with him NOW!

All good! What Marin needs is more matches on regular basis against top 6 players which will make him believe in himself. He can play against them but his problem is that he doubts himself. Hopefully by the end of the year he gets to #8 spot which is great starting point for next year when he'll be more mature and ready.

Re: Your expectations for Marin in 2013

So, very good tournament for Marin: he beated Tsonga, played QF, played good vs Murray. Murray was in PlayStation mode from backline. However Marin would won that points if he did go on the net after good attacks.
Now, it's time for European clay swing. First stop is Monte Carlo starting for 2 weeks. He has great chance for QF there, too. In 3rd round his possible rivals are Raonic, Wawrinka, Haas and Seppi. All of them are beatable. I think just Wawrinka would be a problem. After that he would played 4th round and possible rivals are Berdych, Tsonga, Tipsarevic and Gasquet. All of them are beatable, too. Actually in-form Gasquet would beat Marin on clay. Possible rivals in QF are Djokovic, Murray, Nadal and Ferrer. If he will get Murray, Marin has a chance for semis.
After that Marin will play in Munich. He is 2nd seed there (top seed is Tipsarevic), 3rd one is Haas, 4th one is Kohli (it would be nice to avoid them), seeds from 5 to 8 are: Dolgo, Flo Mayer, Misha and Baghi. Great filed is in Munich, cut-off is on #55 spot.
Strictly aftr Munich he would play Madrid and Rome back to back and than two week preparation for Roland Garros.
He will play Munich to make some victories. It would be better to play Barcelona instead (starting stright after MC). Hw would make QF, maybe even semis.

Will the Marin step up or bend over tomorrow?

However, i must point out that Marin has played quite well so far in the tournament. And did you notice that he won almost all of tie-breaks this year?
Yeah, he is 7 in a row, after he lost first two.
It's always same with the Marin's draws: the easiest opponents in the first rounds and the toughiest seeds in later stages
