It depends on what you mean by 'being back'. If you think 'will he win Slams again and such?', well, no. But if you think if he can climb the rankings again, maybe win a 250 or 2, have 1 deep Slam run (R4 or QF maybe), then I'll stick with 'too early to tell' bcs with his game from today, he would have beaten 70 to 80% of the players in the MD.

Hahaha lol at those thinking his Kooyong win actually meant that he was "back"

It was obvious that Berdy and Delpo weren't really taking it seriously and if they did they would've beat him as well.

When the real stuff starts he's out in the first round.

These are all key form indicators for him so for Hewitt and his team it's a pretty big deal. Obviously he's not going to win next week but there are signs he could beat Tipsaravaric and go on to have a solid AO campaign.

Exactly, people are really missing the point here.. it's not so much about how his competitors were, it's about how well Hewitt played - his shot-making, his speed around the court (due to actually being physically fit for once) and just general demeanor. He seemed rejuvenated, confident and solid... something we have not seen from Rusty for a long time.

So in that respect it is certainly a sign of his return. Early to call I know, but fingers crossed!

nah. All it proves is how much the aforementioned players are overrated.

Only good thing to come out of that exho is Hewitt is not injured. Other than that it doesn't mean much, Hewitt's biggest problem these last few years is producing pace on his serve and shots. No way would Delpo or Berdych hit even half as hard as they can in an exho, you can't really judge Hewitt's shots based on those wins. Still, the AO match vs Tispy is 100% guaranteed to go to 5 sets, I hope Hewitt wins.

I would like to see Hewitt do good, only thing is he lost to Istomin in Brisbane and normally top guys enter exhibitions just to try out new things on the court that they did on practice.Plus Berdych and Raonic already lost to weaker opponents a week earlier(Berdych against Bautisat Agut and Raonic on the other hand bit more difficult - Dmitrov(but Raonic did not even win a single 1st serve return)
But still hope that win in Kooyong gave him confidence and would love to see him have a full healthy year.Love watching him play
