Re: All Time Ranking 1877-2012

No - you only get points for winning at least one match in a tournament you enter - although you do get points for a walkover

Hey good work.

Do players get points for entering a tournament and losing their first match? Or do you need to win one match in order to qualify for points?

So for example you enter into the last 16 of a C-level tournament but lose your first match. Do you get eight points for showing up?

Re: All Time Ranking

Emerson was a great player, but he was not nearly as good a player as Rosewall, before or during the Open Era. Also, all his slams were in the amateur game and not against the top pros of his time. Laver was far better in 64 than he was in 62 or before. Computers don't know everything, Yet- LOL!

Re: All Time Ranking

Complete draws, at least for "slam" tournaments, can be found in "The Grand Slam Record Book". In any case, unless you find a way to count pro tournaments, the system is already too flawed to be even commented.

Re: All Time Ranking

wimbledon wasnt even a real slam in 73

AO was considered a joke on and off for many years

pro slams were almost always more important than traditional slams untill 68

even in the 80s you'd have to sub in a big draw event in place of AO

also doesn't take into account the limited travelling ability at the turn of the century

and i'm certainly sure bill tilden didnt stop playing in 1930

rod laver won 195+ tournaments
rosewall even more
gonzales about 150+

federer has around 70
how can federer be at the top of this list....

Re: All Time Ranking

Mick I wish you would check www.tennisarchives.com
Its already publishing lots an lots of old draws. And whats better, its not forum like so you could check all results from one player in a glance!

Re: All Time Ranking

On the WTA side of BFTP they are posting many draws of these old tournaments.
I wish somebody would do it for ATP. I've collected everything from ITF, SteveGTennis and ATP sites.

But still the information on 1968-1972 is severely lacking.
Not to mention pre-Open era.

Re: All Time Ranking

Hello,

Tennisarchives uses lots of sources including World tennis. Its just very time consuming to get it all online quickly, and we could surely use some extra hands!

There is another good site called 'Tennis Archives' and a database called 'Zohocreater' (although this one just gives final information.

I see. I knew the websites you mentioned but it seems like I have to get back to my Uni years and get stuck in the library to get a complete picture lol

Thanks a lot,

I assume from your point system that you have all the draws for every tournament ever, where did you find them? Because I can't find any book or website providing all the draws.
