Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

Continuing on the AO Qualifying Tournament Aussie Men's results:
2nd Round:

Thompson beaten 62 64 by Ryan Sweeting(21) - expected but Jordan performed beyond expectation in winning 1st round
Bolt beaten by 64 57 86 Florent Serra(4) - sooo unlucky, outstanding performance by Alex
Barton beaten by Smyczek 36 64 61 - disappointing but a good effort by Barton, fell off a bit at the end
Feeney beaten 75 64 by Stebe - a big fight back by Feeney in 2nd set did not come off.

And now just one Aussie still to come:
Reid v Reister - com'n Reidy - can he do it?

Unfortunately no - good fight, close match but Reid beaten by 76 64 Julian Reister

Disappointing but as predicted - no Aussie men qualify, none through to final round.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

Isn't Bolt from South Aust?

Very disappointed in the losses and scores from Groth and Klein and the score by Kyrgios.

Thanasi battled hard and a shame he wasn't rewarded with a win but Im looking forward to seeing him come back in 12 months time!!

Not sure how Grills got a gig, wasted WC IMO....Thompson shocked me with a win there, well done to him.

Bolt, Barton, Feeney, Red all getting through was great, especially Reid, as he said post match he had chances last year when he had MP and a line call was overruled...now he is mentally stronger and would be great to see him get through to the Main Draw....

Im going Friday so will check out Barton/Feeney/Reid and hopefully Bolt can win tomorrow...

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

Report card on the 1st round of qualifying
8 wildcards and 2 direct entry - 50% win rate, 5x WC & 0x Direct

Thompson, Bolt, Barton, Reid and Feeney through

Grills, Kokkanakis, Kyrgios, Klein and Groth out

It will be interesting to see who survives the second round

Also interesting to note that 4 of the 5 winners today are from NSW - com'n the Blues
And Bolt from Canberra (surrounded by NSW - Lol)

Lambs to the slaughter:
Grills beaten 63 61 by Authom
Thompson beats Renevand 46 62 97 - well done son
Bolt beats Westerhof 76 64 - good win there
Kokkanakis match against Johnson going to the wire, he saves 2 bp's at 11-11 in 3rd set. This is an epic 3rd set... Damn, goes down 17-15 in the 3rd. Great effort, he will be shattered. Lost 64 67(5) 17-15
Barton beats Capcovic 61 63 - well done, as I thought he would
Kyrgios beaten by Klahn 63 62 - thought Nick might win that one

Young Guns 50-50 so far, going well

Klein went down 7-5, 6- to Ghedin. Pooh - expected him to win that
Groth beaten 62, 62 by wild card 18yr old Frenchie Lucas Pouille - why did Pouille get a WC?
Feeney a set all with Kosakowski - com'n Feens - he goes on to win 57 64 63 - you little beauty
Just Mattie Reid to come - and he gets up over Hocevar 62 64 - well done Matt

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

Not sure any of these players will qualify. Best chance I think is Barton, on current form and then Kyrgios, if he can hold it together.
Not sure of Jacob Grills getting a WC. Who is pushing his barrow. I'm sure he failed to win a match in the 18's at Melbourne Park in December. I think Peers and Gooch unlucky.
Good luck to all the Aussies - hope they can perform beyond my expectancy.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

The qually draw for aus open is out, I'm on my phone so it's too much effort to list all the Aussie matchups but I'm sure someone else will...
No gooch or ball in the draw which I kind of half expected, they were overlooked for the younger guys like grills and Thompson. A chance for a few wins I thought when I first looked over the matches

I am sure the win was just as sweet for Jones. It is not every day you beat a top 100 player and he has not qualified for many ATP tour events.
Good luck to him against Melzer, he will need to raise his game another notch.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

My choice for AO qualies wild cards are:
Looking at the cut list, it looks like Matt Reid and Feeney may make the cut for qualies (would be my first picks).
One qualies WC already given to Frenchie Lucas Pouille so, only four left. My picks:

Barton, Peers, Guccione and Look.

Kubler did not enter (assume knees not ok on hard court), Ball (in the US, recovering, heard he had tonsils removed), Lemke (quit), Lindahl (quit - now coaching I heard), , Propoggia (long shot at best)

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

Auckland 2 hours ahead of Sydney. Even if he lost to Melzer, I doubt he would mke it back to Melbourne in time for AO Qualies sign-in.
Also, not sure if ATP rules allows a player to play both an ATP event and the Qualifying Tournament the same week.
Lets hope Jonesie can prevail against Melzer.

Greg Jones won his final qualifying match today. And plays first round against Melzer which i assume he would lose and if he does he will make it back in time.

Re: 2013 Australian Open Wildcards.

I doubt Greg Jones will be back in Australia in time for the first round of qualifying seen as he won his first round match in Auckland today! But lets hope! Bolt hit with Djokovic today also.

Exactly Klein would have made both Bris and Syd qualies cut offs, wonder what's going on there??

Yep 3rd & 5th on alts list, fingers crossed they both get in direct at the last minute...

Confirmed q wc's for Kyrgios, Kokkinakis and Bolt so that leaves 5?

Contenders: Kubler, Jones, Propoggia, Barton, Look (Was thinking of quitting), Ball (Probably in the US), Lemke (Quit), Guccione, Peers, Lindahl, Verryth, Whttington, Banes, Schipanski...

My choices: Jones, Barton, Propogga, Kubler (If Fit), Guccione, next: Peers/Lindahl
