Re: the BEER thread

Now drinking a nice lager. Probably the craft brew that is closest to an AAL.

Norway is utterly weird. We're very liberal in some respects, and almost equally restrictive in others. You have to go to "monopolies" (specialized liquor stores with limited opening hours) in order to find ABV above 4,7%, and they close at 6pm.

Bars with a service permit is a different story, of course.

There are, however, some fantastic microbreweries in Norway.

Nøgne Ø

Ægir

If you ever come here, check them out. They're internationally acclaimed (and available) too. My ex-brother in law and my nephew found a bar in Rome that served both, and they won't shut up about it.

Wow, triple IPA. Strongest IPA I've tried is a double with 12%, Double Dog by Flying Dog. The bitterness was a little much for me and I generally like strong IPA's; alcohol flavor was surprisingly well masked considering the lack of sweetness however. Definitely a high quality beer if you can handle it.

I personally prefer tripel and quad Belgians when I want a wine-strength beer. Probably my favorite but out of my price range besides as a one-off:

I liked their Oktoberfest last year but wasn't too happy with this year's. Was even less impressed by Sierra Nevada's offering. That one was quite pale and tasted pretty close to a golden lager.

Of the 2016 Oktoberfesets I've tried, this is my favorite:

As long as I don't feel there's cat fur in my beer, I'm fine.
