Let me summarise this match in one sentence:

Everything that happened in this match was entirely predictable

Roger fought but he couldn't keep his game together in the decisive moments .

Led all sets except the fourth with a break at some point, tells you something.

Nadal wasn't too good either but good enough and had some brilliant moments, especially on the passing shots.

Hope Nole wins now so that at least one of my faves gets to the final.

Atrocious match. Out of all their career meetings, Nadal and Federer have played only a minute quantity of quality tennis.

Again, it will be the moonballer Nadal versus the quintessential baseliner Djokovic in the final. What a pathetic era of tennis it is when these two, who would be regarded as no-talent hacks in any other era, can continually meet at the very highest level.

Nonsense. Sick & tired of reading about any number of "Golden Eras" which. quiote honestly were just that in their time. That said, dollars to donuts that the top ten/twenty players today would be more than competitive at any other time -- simply a matter of the sheer number of players involved in the game along with Darwinian evolution (training methods, nutrition, body-types, technology, sports medicine, etc.). In fact, I daresay players such as Murray, Tsonga, Byrdich, Soderling & Verdasco to name but a few, would have a Slam or two playing against the old guard. Never mind the top four -- they'd have a hard time losing to any of the old timers in 2days game.

The only way to make any sort of balanced comparison would involve a time-machine were the Borgs, Lends, Connors, Lavers et al, could jump forward in time and train with the the same methods available today. Otherwise we're talking routs. Tennis is a great sport and has been for a long time, but like any other it's akin to mental masturbation to compare eras...might get you off, but it's all in your mind.

Enjoy the moment, forget the hate and the irrational comparisons. Today it's all that matters.

Re: AO SF: Nadal beats Federer as usual 6-7, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4

Run for a forehand return Roger , if you can't make a backhand one. Nadal just using the same old tactics, which for the looks of it, Federer is incapable to crack.

One can only laugh.

Pissed away so many leads, so many chances, missed so many stupid shots.

All after playing an astounding first 3 games to the match.

He just doesn't have it in his head to beat rafa in a slam.

He just can't. He just fucking can't. Even with the diaper change in the fireworks break, Federer just can't beat Nadal. It's on his head.

Ultimately, Federer's inability to solve Rafa has tainted his legacy. Roger not being able to beat Rafa in the most important matches in years (after Wimbledon years ago) will be noted in history books. Regardless of how many slams Rafa wins, even if it stays at 10, Roger has managed to fuck up his legacy by being an idiot in these matches. Choking last year's French final (5-3 up). Choking this year, he should have won at least another set... choking that Australian Open final years ago, going away in the 5th. Now he can talk about being a legend in his own head all day long. I am sure Rafa always has an orgasm when he sees Roger in front of him. Easiest match up for him probably

Believe me in 10 y no one is gonna talk about the fact that he choked vs Nadal (it will always be the records and streaks)...
Just like today we rarely talk abut Pete having Agassi number (we just remember Agassi being a hell of a player and wining all 4...and being good at an old age..)..The H2H's fade away relatively quick..that's a fact...

Hilarious predictable and boring. His legend is forever tainted by the terrible choices he makes against this guy. I hope Nole carves no.2 a new one in the final.

Re: AO SF: Nadal lets Federer choke once again 6-7(5) 6-2 7-6(5) 6-4

Federer had his chances to win the 4th set, but couldn't do it. Had his chances throughout the match really. Nadal just has an incredible mental advantage over Federer that gets more obvious every time they play a big match. Confidence and mental toughness are powerful things in sport.

Djokovic and Murray tomorrow, then. If Novak wins that, I think he wins it all. If Murray does, Nadal would probably be my pick.

I didn't think that it was possible to choke harder on the big points against Nadal than Berdych, but Fed one-upped him in that category tonight.

This was a really torturous match to watch. SO many opportunities that Fed created for himself, only to choke them away with unbelievably bad or stupid shotmaking when the time came to cash in those opportunities.
