Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

That is such a good come-back, 10 match wins in a row, a title in the Futures as a warm-up and then backs up win a Challenger Title win.
What has he been on...
Great stuff from Duckie

James wins the final in straight sets. 90 points and 10 match win streak. Great start to his comeback. Hoping for some awesome results on the grass.

James should destroy Sam Barry tbh

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Well, it might be a little premature for that - but if James can win the title here, it will give him a great platform to attack that target because it was at this point last year that his activity got very thin indeed as he barely played for months on end.

Basically, his points defence for the remainder of this year has three components to it - the 45 points from Wimbledon in July (and 10 from the USO), 36 from Washington DC and Montreal qualies in August, and the remaining 58 from Challengers in October and November.

While not totally insubstantial, if he stays injury free, sticks to Challengers and maintains at least a decent level of form (minus the surprise losses to players ranked 400+) he could certainly be back around 120-130 cometh the end of the year...notch up a few titles and it could be more impressive than that.

And a great story for Sam Barry, his opponent in the Bangkok final - for so long James McGee has held down that rather strange position as tennis' only Irishman, so it's nice to see someone else having a breakthrough.

Good to see Ducks winning again even despite this being his second tournament back. Hope he can take the title back and venture back into the top 100 again!

And into the final, 6-7 6-4 6-2

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Ideal start continues. Duck unbeaten in May and defeats a top 100 player, 6-7 6-2 6-2 Sarkissian next, good chance to make the final and get back into the top 200.

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

The quarter-final presents Yen-Hsun Lu, 2nd seed who is even under ranked due to injury and will be a very tough ask.

Day delay favoured our man... Started the day down 6-7 1-3 and ended it dishing out a bagel.

Next up, Jason Jung

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Hopefully James can restore some Aussie pride in Bangkok after the carnage of today........Smith (retired), Groth (retired), Reid (lost to Kibi in straight sets and Whittington suffers a straight sets loss to Glasspool with a second set bagel. Not a set won between the four of them.....

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

James should really have no trouble with Chen, Chens a 32 year old poor mans journymen, for the past 10 years has only been really between 200-400 in the rankings

Re: James Duckworth Cheering Thread

Well, he's back, and back a winner. Dropped just one set, a tiebreak in the semis.

On to Bangkok, with RG Q going on he will take the 8th seed and start against Chen who is close to him in ranking.

I don't think it's so bad - he's playing the Bangkok Challenger next week and probably better to play a Futures and get a couple of matches in after an injury instead of playing Seoul and risking getting a top seed early.

Through to the semis now.
