Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Not a surprise considering how his career evolved, but it clearly turned out Ben did not have the game and drive it takes to be a touring professional.

Hopefully he enjoys a successful coaching career and family, it seems to fit.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Disappointing for those of us who followed his career, but I really don't blame him for making this decision. Him and Lois raising Zara will be one of the most exciting times of his life and slogging it out on the challenger circuit he would miss a lot of that

Congratulation on everything you achieved Ben!

From Ben's Facebook. I think it is sad but kind of predictable. Ben will enjoy life with Lois and Zara for sure.......

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Benjamin is signed up to next play at the Futures stop in Alice Springs starting Sept 19.

This commences a solid schedule of Futures events (25K's) running weekly across Australia through November. There are all some Challenger Tour stops during this stretch.

Ben currently sits at No. 248 in the ATP live rankings with 210 ATP points as of Sept 6, 2016.

He will have to defend 139 of those ATP points over the next two months, as he made a few finals and had a Challenger tour stop victory on this same stretch last season.

He needs a good run through the end of year.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Ben returned to the Challenger tour in North America in late June after skipping Wimbledon qualifying.

He went 3-7, including a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing in the first round of US Open qualifying at the hands of Montanes.

I saw only one match, his 6-2, 6-1 thrashing at the hands of his countryman Matosevic at the Aptos Challeneger.

It wasn't pretty.

I guess he will be criss crossing Australia come mid September when the Challenger tour rolls around Australia for two months.

Same old same old with Benjamin.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

He played so well in Paris too in the qualifying. I just worry about how many setbacks he can continue to endure before he pulls up stumps and thinks enough is enough.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

Benjamin was in the QF list for the Manchester Challenger starting tomorrow, but his name did appear in the QF draw today.

Checked twitter and he posted this photo 4 days ago with this caption:

Surgery went well #spacedout #whatsnew

Le sigh.

I cannot fathom why he did not try to play at least of the clay court challengers leading in to get even one match on the surface if he was going to attempt contesting a GS qualifying tournament.

He says on twitter after the loss this morning that he is on to the grass.

His scheduling continues to make absolutely no sense whatsoever.
May as well collect his QR1 cheque and spend a few weeks on grass before playing I suppose.

Re: Ben Mitchell's Banana Party

And Benjamin is back at home with his family after that winless trip to North America.

No idea how he expects to support an 18 year young woman and their baby moving forward.

Let's hope Lois has some financial support from her athletics legend father.
