Melzer guides Austria to Davis Cup success

Austria caused a major shock in the Davis Cup as they beat Russia to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 1995.Jurgen Melzer, who rose to number eight in the world rankings last year but has slipped recently to 40, won the decisive fourth rubber by thrashing Alex Bogomolov Jr 6-2 6-4 6-1 in one hour and 43 minutes.

I have always said that tennis does not get the respect it deserves for being one of the most physically demanding professional sports one can play. Last year I was speaking with a baseball coach who had never seen a professional tennis match. "tennis is hard" he asked. This coming from a baseball player?? A sport where a hang nail can sideline you for a week. Luckily the French Open was starting the next week and I said, do me a favor and watch one match, only then will you understand....

Krajan wary of improving Japan

The Croatian captain Zeljko Krajan thinks his side will find it difficult to beat Japan in this weekend's Davis Cup clash.
