Murray ready for the unknown

Andy Murray has admitted he is going into somewhat of the unknown as he defends his first ever Grand Slam title at the US Open but the Scot is looking forward to the challenge.

Having gone so long without winning one of the ‘Big Four’, Murray has enjoyed a superb year, with wins at the Olympic Games, US Open and of course his famous Wimbledon success.

With two Grand Slams to his name, the 26-year-old is now fully focused on retaining his US Open title at Flushing Meadows and all eyes will be on how the world number three copes with the pressure of being holder and favourite in the sports betting.

If Murray is to be regarded as one of the greats of the game, he will have to learn how to defend Grand Slam titles, as the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and tennis betting second favourite Novak Djokovic have done.

This of course is the first time Murray will have to defend a Grand Slam crown and the Scotsman knows that plenty will be expected of him.
He said: "It's the first time (I've defended a grand slam), so it's a new experience.

"At my age and the amount of time I've been on tour, it's not often that you get new experiences. I don't know exactly how I'll deal with the pressure, how I'll feel on Monday - I'm expecting to be nervous but this week it's just been a bit different.

"There's a few more demands on your time away from the court so you need to make sure you schedule your practice well and not use up too much of your energy off the court. I've done a good job of that so far but it's not easy."

By winning two Grand Slams, Murray has stepped up a level in the game and now the question of whether he can push on to the level were few players get to, is what everyone is waiting to find out.
