Berlocq silenced by Murray

Andy Murray regained his composure to silence Carlos Berlocq and book his place in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

The world number three defeated his Argentine opponent 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 but it was not straightforward for the US Open champion, who was less than impressed with the noise coming from the other side of the net. He described Berlocq's grunting as "extremely, extremely loud" and accused the 30-year-old of gamesmanship.

Murray was clearly rattled in the opening exchanges and was broken twice to come to within a game of losing the first set. However, he broke back to halt Berlocq's momentum before taking the set on the tie-break.

The two players exchanged breaks at the start of the second set but Murray's extra quality won through as he broke Berlocq again in the seventh game on his way to the last eight, where he will meet Juan Martin Del Potro.

"It was tough. He started well and he was playing very aggressive. He had a lot of chances in the first set. He obviously served for it," Murray told

"And then the second set was kind of the other way around. I had a lot of chances, but it was still tight. All the games were pretty close, a lot of long games and longish rallies."

The pick of the quarter-finals is undoubtedly Roger Federer against Rafael Nadal. Both players survived a scare in the last 16. Federer saw off compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 7-5, while Nadal came from behind to beat Ernests Gulbis 4-6 6-4 7-5.

The match will represent Nadal's biggest challenge since returning from a serious knee injury. A win for the Spaniard would send a message out to the rest of the tour.
