Murray delight at Lendl appointment

Posted 11-26-2012 at 09:28 PM by

British number one Andy Murray has described the appointment of Ivan Lendl as his coach as "one of the best decisions" of his career.

Murray will reflect on 2012 as his breakthrough year of results and scores . The Scot became the first British male to win a major in 76 years when he triumphed at the US Open in September. He also won Olympic gold at the London Games and reached his first Wimbledon final.

The 25-year-old ended the season in disappointing fashion at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, where he was favourite in online gambling markets but lost in the semi-finals to Roger Federer. Despite missing out on a fitting finale, Murray is looking forward to more success with Lendl in 2013.

"Ivan has helped me a lot this year, working with him is one of the best decisions I've made in my career and I know he'll keep pushing me hard to achieve even more," Murray wrote in his BBC Sport column.

"We'll be meeting up in Florida for my winter training block next month, so I'd better stay on his good side!"

Lendl joined the Murray camp ahead of the Australian Open in January. The eight-time Grand Slam champion was alerted to Murray's need for a new coach when Australian Darren Cahill called him in December. The rest is history.

With 2012 done and dusted, Murray is determined to improve during the off-season and take the circuit by storm next year.

"I've been through so many highs and lows already throughout my career, and to experience the sort of highs that I did in the summer made me realise it absolutely was worth it," he added.

"I finally did it, and it's given me a lot of motivation going into next year to keep working on my game, keep improving."
