Live Tennis:

Jugen Melzer showed a tremendous amount of resilience as he claimed a stunning 7-5 7-6 victory against Milos Raonic to secure the Regions Morgan Keegan Championship title in Memphis. The Austrian broke a toe only days before the tournament started, but shook off the injury to battle his way through a tough draw to win his fourth career title.

Melzer came into the tournament on the back of a year that saw the 30-year old drop from eighth in the world down to 38th, with a serious back injury plaguing the Austrian throughout most of 2011. That, combined with his broken toe, should have really ruled out Melzer from being a serious threat in this star-studded tournament, although, that wasn’t to be the case and the experienced left-hander defied the odds.

Victories against top seed John Isner and number three seed Radek Stepanek saw Melzer earn his place in the final against young Canadian, Raonic. The Austrian handled his younger opponent with distinction; countering Raonic’s powerful forehand by playing to the 21-year old’s backhand, wrapping up victory in 97 minutes.

"Who would have thought I would come here break my toe and end up winning the tournament," he said.

"I went through a hard time last year with a lot of back problems this is finally an achievement that puts me out of the dark times.

"This is a very important time for me. I am happy I pulled it through."

Melzer will now be hoping this victory is a sign of things to come going into the busy part of this season and pundits looking to capitalise on tennis betting offers will hope similar things.
