Djokovic wants repeat of 2011

Novak Djokovic believes he can emulate his amazing success in 2011 this year as he steps up his preparations for the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, this month.

The world number one has enjoyed a fantastic past 12 months, and was unbeaten before losing to Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the French Open. Those looking at the best Australian Open odds will be wondering if he can start the year in a similar vain.

The Serb won three of the four Grand Slams and seven more titles worldwide as he usurped Rafael Nadal as the world number one and is expected to again be the player the rest will have to beat in 2012 in all the big tournaments.

The 24-year-old did struggle with a few injuries towards the end of last year but he seems over them now and in good shape ahead of the Australian Open in Melbourne, whcih gets underway next week.

He began his superb 2011 with a crushing victory over Andy Murray in the event 12 months ago and will be looking to replicate that victory over the next few weeks.
"My success gives me a reason to believe that I can win again," he said. "I think it doesn't make any sense to be anything other than optimistic.

"I need to believe in my qualities and abilities and I need to believe that I can repeat the success."

Djokovic, however, is far from complacent going into the new campaign and is aware the likes of Nadal, Federer and Britain's Andy Murray will be hoping it is their year in terms of glory in the Grand Slams, but he remains confident he can again dominate the sport, despite how difficult that task remains.

"Of course, it is going to be an incredibly difficult task to achieve," he added. "But you never know, nothing is really impossible."
