Nadal expects tough clash

Former world number one Rafael Nadal says he is expecting an extremely tough match on Thursday night when he faces Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga as he looks to reach the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Both players go into the match knowing that victory for either of them will seal second spot in Group B and a place in the knockout stages at the O2 Arena. Fans of the betting should remember this.

The Spaniard has won six of the last eight matches the pair have played together, including dropping only six games in their Davis Cup encounter in September. However that was on clay and this match will be played on a hardcourt, traditionally the Frenchman’s favourite surface and it could be a very different contest.

The firm surface inside the O2 is likely to favour Tsonga’s aggressive style and Nadal goes into the match on the back of his 6-3 6-0 defeat to Roger Federer and thoughts of that crushing defeat are sure to be fresh in his mind. Those following the tennis betting will be keeping a close eye on things.

The Spaniard told reporters that he knows any match against Tsonga is going to be tough and is certain that there will be fireworks following his loss to Federer.

The Spaniard said: "We have played a lot of matches against each other. He's an explosive player, an aggressive one. I know that I have to play aggressive, I have to play (my shots) long. If I play short, it will be very difficult.

"I have to be solid with my serve. If not, it is impossible, because to have breaks against him is always a really difficult thing."
