Djokovic, Murray Progress in Paris

Sports fans who made the safe gambit of betting on the 'usual suspects' to reach the third round of the Paris Masters were duly rewarded today, when Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and David Ferrer defeated their opponents to advance to the next stage. Joining them are Victor Troicki, Alexandr Dolgopolov, and Janko Tipsarevic.

Djokovic, who was a doubt to feature in the Masters due to a shoulder injury, won 6-4, 6-3 against Croatia's Ivan Dodig. The victory will be doubly important for the Serb, given that it allays some fears about his fitness, while enabling him to collect a £1.24m bounty paid to players who attend the ten annual Masters tournaments. Those looking at the online tennis betting odds should remember this.

Andy Murray, whose victory today means that he has won his last sixteen games, dispatched Frenchman, Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 6-4. The Scot dropped out of the recent Swiss Indoors to prepare for the Paris Masters, but indications are that he is still not one-hundred percent on the court.

“I felt my legs weren't as strong and I didn't move as well as I can do, but I played a relatively solid match”, Murray said, after his match with Chardy.

Moving on; Spain's David Ferrer triumphed 6-4, 6-4 over Nicholas Mahut, of France, while Janko Tipsarevic, the eleventh seed, squashed the United States' Alex Bogomolov in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Serbia's Victor Troicki won his fixture 6-4, 6-4, against Sergiy Stakhovsky. Finally, Alexandr Dolgopolov snatched a narrow victory from Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Swiss player, Roger Federer, began his match around 3:15p.m. local time, while Rafael Nadal, the final member of the ATP Top 5, is absent from this week's tournament. Federer, who is playing against Adrian Mannarino, from France, was ahead after fifteen minutes of play. The tournament will continue into the late afternoon.
