What hopes can Berdych have for ATP finals?

Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych is closing in on qualifying for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, but how far can he expect to go in London where the top eight players in world tennis battle to see who is the victor.

The 26-year-old only needs to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters and now only needs to beat either 11th seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia or American Alex Bogomolov Jr in the next round to make sure of his appearance at the O2.

Berdych is a former Wimbledon finalist, beating Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on his way to losing to Rafael Nadal in the final, and has also made the semi-finals of the French Open throughout his career so far.

The Czech ace has won 6 singles titles since turning professional back in 2002, first starting in the Futures tour before making the major ATP tour where he has continually proven himself among of the best tennis players in the world. Those who plan to bet on Andy Murray should remember this.

Berdych is currently ranked number seven in the ATP world rankings – sixth has been his career-high position – and looks one of the favourites to reach the ATP World Tour finals, with his position being helped by the fact world number six Robin Soderling is out through injury.

Djokovic, Nadal, Andy Murray, Federer and David Ferrer have already qualified for the O2 and those five will pose a formidable challenge for Berdych and the rest of the eight-man field. People placing a ATP Finals London bet should bear this in mind.

It will be a massive challenge for Berdych to really succeed at the ATP World Tour finals but he has previously beaten all of the big four so has no need to fear them – especially as all four stars have been struggling with either form or injury so they are not unbeatable.

Getting into the ATP World Tour finals will represent a great achievement for Berdych and he could sue the competition as a stepping stone to move up to the next level and challenge the big four for major titles in the future.
