Wozniacki aiming for strong finish

Current world number-one, Caroline Wozniacki, will this week be looking to claim the WTA Championship title in Istanbul, which would see her finish the season still ranked number-one in the world. The Dane needs to either win the tournament, or reach the final with two or more victories in the round-robin stage, if she is to finish the season as the world number-one, a position she has held for the entire season, despite once again failing to win a Grand Slam.

Wozniacki will have to come through her tough group stage before thinking about that number one spot, not an easy ask when you look at her opponents Petra Kvitova, Vera Zvonareva and Agnieszka Radwanska. Should the 21-year old come through the group stage, then she will find no respite with Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Li Na and Sam Stosur all looking to reach the latter stages from their group. Fans of live tennis should remember this.

The Dane has admitted she is desperate to make continue her control of the top spot in the rankings. Those looking at the tennis betting offers should bear this in mind.

"Of course when you've been number one the whole year, you'd like to finish the last week as number one as well," she said.

"That would mean a lot to me since not a lot of people have finished the year two times in a row as number one."

Last year’s WTA Championship saw Wozniacki finish a close second to Kim Clijsters, although she was able to cling onto the number one ranking. The Dane will know she’ll need to start picking up Grand Slam wins if she is going to be a genuine world number-one, and so far the talented youngster has been found wanting on the big occasion.
