What does day three at the French Open hold?

Day three at Roland Garros sees the completion of the second round line-up. The show courts have some big names in action, with Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters under the microscope to see if they can match the impressive starts made by main rivals Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki on day two.

Neither should have too much problem in dealing with John Isner – a less dangerous proposition on clay than on other surfaces – and Anastasiya Yakimova, who has fallen at the first hurdle in 13 of her 16 slam appearances. Those looking to bet French Open money should remember this.

Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka should also get their campaigns under way trouble-free, but sixth seed Li Na and 2008 champion Ana Ivanovic will find respectively Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Johanna Larsson tougher assignments.

Andy Murray has been handed a favourable draw, the fourth seed starting against local qualifier Eric Prodon with no excuses for an early exit. The Scot should really be looking ahead to a potential quarter final clash with Jurgen Melzer.

Seeds most vulnerable to an early exit are Fernando Verdasco, short of form this year and up against clay courter Juan Monaco, and Sam Querrey, who will have his mobility tested by Phillipp Kohlschreiber. Those planning to bet Wimbledon money should keep an eye on this.

15th seed Andrea Petkovic is an outside bet for the women's title after a strong clay court season – her championship credentials will be tested by talented 19-year-old Bojana Jovanovski, freshly into the world's top 50.

Four seeds have already departed both the men and women's draws and more upsets are guaranteed on an interesting third day at Roland Garros.
