Look at the first round of the Women's French Open

The 2011 women's French Open is as wide-open as any slam has been in recent times. No fewer than seven players are currently on offer at less than the 18 that Roger Federer is trading at to win the men's version. This plethora of potential winners makes for some exciting betting, not least in the opening round, where there is plenty of value to be found.

26th seed Nadia Petrova is pitted against her doubles opponent Anastasia Rodionova. The Russian will be a strong favourite to progress but the fact the players know each other's game so well is something of a leveller and the naturalised Aussie is worth a punt. Neither player has had a good year, and this could be a scrappy affair where the lowest unforced error count proves crucial. Those looking at the French Open tennis betting should bear this in mind.

10th seed Jelena Jankovic has reached three of the last four Roland Garros semi finals and is a real contender for the title due to her impressive clay record. She faces Alona Bondarenko first up and could be vulnerable against a player who ousted her at last year's Australian Open. The Ukrainian has just returned from injury and is an unknown quantity in 2011, which might help her value in the online tennis betting.

Bojana Jovanovski is on the verge of becoming only the second teenager in the world's top 50 and whilst the Serbian faces a tough assignment in 15th seed Andrea Petkovic, she is capable of an upset. Petkovic should have been beaten by Anne Keothavong in the Australian Open and can start matches slowly. A 2-1 win for the German is an attractive bet.
