Big names could miss French Open

It is looking unlikely that former French Open finalist Venus Williams will be competing at Roland Garros in a few weeks time after her latest tournament withdrawal.

The 30-year-old, a seven-time Major winner, has pulled out of next week's Brussels Open as she is still recovering from an abdominal problem.

Williams suffered the injury at the Australian Open back in January and the long injury lay-off means she has been unable to prepare for the event and those looking for French Open best bets should probably dismiss her out of hand.

It is now looking like Williams faces a big race against time to be ready for the French Open on May 22nd, as the Brussels tournament is normally used as a warm-up event for the second Major of the year.

There could be a big absence from the men's side of the draw also as former US Open champions Juan Martin Del Potro has been rated as doubtful for the French Open.

The 22-year-old missed most of the 2010 season due to a wrist problem and pulled out of the Madrid Masters last week due to a hip muscle problem anyone looking to place French Open tennis bets should probably give him a miss.

Del Potro has been rehabilitating in Argentina, and said on Twitter: "The results of my tests showed a tear in the hip. I have already started rehabilitation and I will do all I can to be in Paris."

It looks virtually nailed on that the French Open final in the men's side of the draw will be between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, as the world number one has won five of the last six and the Serbian is undefeated in 32 matches so far in 2011.
