Just over three months since Serbia joyously claimed their first ever Davis Cup title the 2011 competition is ready to begin.

The Worldwide tournament kicks off a busy month for tennis and one that really sees the 2011 season get going.

The two biggest Masters events of the year are at Indian Wells and Miami come at the end of month, which perhaps explains why some players are not representing their country at the Davis Cup.

The all-conquering Novak Djokovic is one player who is taking a well earned rest. The 23-year-old had cited fatigue for the reason why he is sitting out Serbia's clash with India. Though in Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic – two other heroes from that epic final win over France last December - they should have enough quality to progress and the best tennis odds reflect this.

Andy Murray – who lost to Djokovic in January's Australian Open Final – is also sitting out Great Britain's clash with Tunisia. The Davis Cup isn't a kind competition for Britain, who have relied on one decent player to drag them through for the past 15 years. Relegation was the inevitable result, though a win against Turkey late last year may put them on an upward curve again.

Rafael Nadal is spear heading Spain's efforts though as they begin their bid to win a third Davis Cup in four years with a trip to Belgium.

All-in-all seven of the World's Top 10 players are taking part, a healthy percentage and once that can only do wonders for the appeal of the competition.

Robin Soderling, Tomas Berdych, Jurgen Melzer and Andy Roddick are in action for Sweden, Czech Republic, Austria and the US respectively while David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco join Nadal in Spain's formidable looking side that puts them right up there with the favourites.
