The Week in Hong Kong

The next few days were a blur. More dim sum breakfast and lunch with various relatives. Shopping in various big shopping center. Visit a Buddhist temple where memorials were set for many relatives including my father and my paternal grandparents. Unfortunately, the smoke from incense and heat from burning those paper products almost overwhelmed me.

Don’t want to talk too much about the relationships between my mother and my sister. I love them dearly but the tension was BIG. On one hand, I was very looking forward to the return trip. On the other hand, I knew there won’t be many chances that three of us can spend time alone together without husbands and children taking away our attention. I treasured every pleasant and un-pleasant moments.

One thing I really like in Hong Kong is the “octopus” card. It’s like a debit card that you can use for the fare in all train, subway and light-rail systems. Also for the public buses and many supermarkets, fast food places like McDonald, 7-11 etc. You can add money to the card at any places accepting the card. It’s an electronic card that you don’t even need to take the card out of your purse or wallet to scan. It’s extremely convenient when you’re taking the bus or subway. You can refund whatever amount of money left on the card plus your $50 deposit except a $7 service charge (less than 1 USD) is applied if you have the card for less than 3 months.

Halloween night I spent with my workaholic friend. It took me two-days to finally contact her so the only time we could meet is the night before I left. The great thing was we ate at her home instead of a restaurant, a great change of scenario after eating out every meal for almost a week.

Another thing I noticed while visiting my friend was there’re free internet stations in some subway stations. While I was in the subway, my friend called that she would be late. Before I exit the subway station near her place, I saw those stations so I went there and checked my emails, etc.
