Svetlana Kuznetsova began her preparations for this month’s US Open tennis betting with a win in the Mercury Insurance Open. The Russian, who won at Flushing Meadows in 2004, was too strong for her opponent winning in three sets against eighth-seeded Yanina Wickmayer to advance to the final 16 in San Diego.

The victory over the 16th-ranked Belgian was Kuznetsova's first win over a top-20 opponent since she beat No. 5 Elena Dementieva at the WTA Tour Championships last November. Kuznetsova...

This season has been something of a breakthrough for Tomas Berdych. The Czech player reached the three quarter finals in consecutive tournament earlier in the year. Berdych lost to Andy Roddick in the 2010 SAP Open, and then Ernests Gulbis beat Berdych in the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships. Federer, who has won 16 Grand Slams in a glittering career, has dropped to No 3 in the ATP World Rankings for the first time since November 2003 and will now trust his care to the man who has looked after Pete Sampras and Tim Henman in the past.

Annacone will leave...

Juan Martin del Potro ended 2009 on a high. He had won the final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open and was runner-up at the end of season World Tour finals, meaning he started 2010 ranked number four in the world.

This season therefore promised much and the Tennis betting odds expected him to challenge for major honours again. However a serious wrist injury that required surgery has decimated his year so far to the extent of him being out of action for six months.
