Newly crowned Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic will certainly head to Flushing Meadows later this summer, as the man to beat. The Serb added the Wimbledon title to the Australian Open trophy he won at the start of the year, and will be hoping to now finish the year with success at the upcoming US Open and the ATP Tour World Finals.

It was great while it lasted but the British female challenge at the French Open came to a predictably abrupt end in the second round at the French Open.
Elena Baltacha and Heather Watson became the first British female pair to make it past the first round in Paris since Jo Durie and Sara Gomer in 1992.

British number one Baltacha's battling 7-5 6-2 over American Sloane Stephens in the first round had raised hopes of an extended run in the tournament. Back in '92 Durie made...

This was the 27-year-old's first appearance since March, after she damaged her shoulder and ankle in an accident at a cousin's wedding.

Clijsters looked...

Britain's Elena Baltacha will take plenty of positives away from her French Open campaign after reaching the second round. The 27-year old was aiming to become the first British female to make the third round at Roland Garros since 1992, but despite putting in a brave performance, it proved to be a step too far for Baltacha. The British number one went down in three sets to American Vania King, 4-6 6-1 6-4, in a game that lasted over two hours.

Going into the match and Baltacha was...

Day three at Roland Garros sees the completion of the second round line-up. The show courts have some big names in action, with Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters under the microscope to see if they can match the impressive starts made by main rivals Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki on day two.

Neither should have too much problem in dealing with John Isner – a less dangerous proposition on clay than on other surfaces – and Anastasiya Yakimova, who has fallen at the first hurdle...
