Andrea Petkovic, who had been set to be the tenth seed at the Australian Open, has had to pull out of the tournament due to a back injury.
The 24-year-old German picked up the problem during her defeat to Agnieszka Radwanska in the Sydney International and needed to receive treatment from the trainer during the match.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic has been handed the top seed in this month’s Australian Open which gets underway on January 16.

The Serbian defeated Andy Murray in the final at Melbourne Park 12 months ago and went on to win Wimbledon and the US Open in an extraordinary year of live tennisfor the world number one.

Reigning champion Kim Clijsters is confident that she will be able to defend her Australian Open title, after scans revealed her hip injury was not serious.

The 28-year-old had been forced to withdraw from the Brisbane International tournament when she picked up the injury during the second set of her semi-final against Daniela Hantuchova.

Roger Federer has picked up where he left off, as his start to the new year has seen him record his 20th straight win as he continues his run of form going into the Australian Open, making him a favorite with online bets.
