Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska has admitted that she played too much tennis towards the back end of last year but, having worked on her fitness through the winter, she hopes to be able to regain her best form in 2014.

Roger Federer showed that any talk of retirement is premature after warming up for the Australian Open by demolishing Marinko Matosevic at the Brisbane International.

Maria Sharapova has revealed she will work with Dutchman, Sven Groeneveld, as her new head coach ahead of the new season. Stanislas Wawrinka caused the first surprise of the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals by beating Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-7 (0-7), 6-3 in the opening game of the event at the O2 Arena in London.

The Swiss has been in good form at the back end of this season and that has continued on his debut in the competition.

Wawrinka served the better on the indoor surface which helped him to secure the first set after nine games.

For the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, qualification for the ATP World Tour finals at the end of the year is a given, but for those lower down the pecking order in men’s tennis, qualifying for the showpiece event is a huge achievement in itself.

Now that he has qualified, Stanislas Wawrinka hopes to make to most of the experience and top off an exceptional year.
