Roger Federer admits he is motivated by claims that Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are going to leave him behind and dominate tennis.

Federer returned to the summit of the world rankings after winning his 17th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, but all the betting line talk is of a burgeoning rivalry between Murray and Djokovic.

Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash believes Andy Murray has matured in 2012 and could win as many as three Grand Slams next year.

Murray has made huge strides in his results and scores this year under the tutelage of Ivan Lendl – winning Olympic gold at the London Games before breaking his Grand Slam duck at the US Open in September.

Cash feels Lendl has helped develop Murray as a person and was a big factor in his win at Flushing Meadows.

British number one Heather Watson has revealed her Olympic snub spurred her on to greater things in 2012.

The 20-year-old admitted she was "disappointed" Andy Murray chose Laura Robson to partner him in the Olympic mixed doubles, but insisted the rejection has made her stronger.

Andy Murray’s decision to pull out of the Swiss Indoors this week should not affect his chances of lifting the ATP Tour Finals crown in November, despite a back injury clearly being a problem for the Scot.

Murray, who was expected to use the tournament as indoor preparation for the London showdown next month, suffered a back strain ahead of the Basel meet and has rightly decided to rest up and wait for the hurt to ease.

World number three Andy Murray says eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl has played a huge role in some of the impressive live scores he’s posted on his rise to glory.

Murray will reflect on 2012 as his breakthrough year. The Scot claimed gold in the men's singles event at the Olympics on home soil before breaking his Grand Slam duck at the US Open. He also reached his maiden Wimbledon final.
