World number one, Rafael Nadal, looks as though he will still be the man to beat in the three remaining Grand Slams of the year after beating Alexandr Dolgopolov in the final of the Rio Open to claim the 62nd tour-level title of his career.

Stanislas Wawrinka may have defied the tennis betting odds to beat Nadal in the Australian Open final in January but the Spaniard, despite being far from his best throughout the tournament, was still too powerful for his opponents in Brazil....

Juan Martin Del Potro has revealed he faces an uncertain future after admitting he could be forced to undergo wrist surgery for the second time in his career. The world number five, who missed most of 2010 with a career-threatening right wrist injury, has been struggling with a similar problem with his left wrist.

Rafael Nadal secured his 62nd ATP career title in the first ever Rio Open by defeating Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3 7-6(7-3) in the final.

The world number one made his position at the top of the rankings more secure with an extra 500 ranking points.

The victory brings up Nadal’s third tournament success in Brazil, where he remains unbeaten. He also scored there in 2005 in Costa do Sauipe and Sao Paulo in 2013.

Newly crowned Australian Open Champion has revealed that his compatriot Roger Federer was amongst the first people to congratulate him on his famous victory.
