Tommy Haas has named Alexander Waske as his new coach and hopes his fellow German can help him enjoy great success in 2014.

The current world number 12 sees no reason why he can’t qualify for the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals for the first time in his career.

The 35-year-old has won 15 titles on the ATP World Tour but still believes his best tennis is ahead of him.

The former world number one was able to beat heavy favourite Roger Federer in the final 6-1 4-6 6-3. That was his first title since 2010 as he begins the new season in good form.

Hewitt was able to break Federer on three occasions in the opening set as he went into a 1-0 led.

Serena Williams kicked off the new season in the same form she ended the last one, taking her winning streak to 22 matches on the way to the Brisbane International title. Serena collected her first title of 2014 after seeing off world number two Victoria Azarenka 6-4 7-5, ending the Belarusian’s own 24-match winning run.

Following a 2013 in which she amassed a 78-4 record and picked up two more majors – there is little surprise Williams will head to the Australian Open as a heavy...
