From Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende:

pg. 265: Courage is a virtue appreciated in a man but considered a defect in our gender. Bold women are a threat to a world that is badly out of balance, in favor of men..."

Ines lamented to her maid, Catalina, the state of her relationship with Pedro de Valdivia and her role as co-founder of Santiago, Chile. Although it was he who pitched the stakes to claim the land, it was she who made the place inhabitable for all...

Today was a great day to get out and do something...and I did.

First off, I went to the library to pick up on a book I reserved last week, ran into an old friend, and exchanged pleasantries.

Second, I went to my favorite independent bookseller. Count on them to have the latest must-have book as well as an obscure title or two...they have it all. Since I was hungry, I decided to go to the cafe to get a bite to eat. Although I expect good local fare, and will get...

This is one of my favorite shows on television. Right now, I'm watching Stacy and Clinton work with two resistant sisters who believe that fashion does not become them; however, they're missing the point.

Stacy and Clinton want them to cultivate a more modern style, as opposed to the frumpy frocks they wear every day. It's amusing watching these two sisters fuss over something that is so simple for most of the rest of us. As I watch them shop, it's apparent that these sisters don't...
