2009 Ice Storm Refugee

Last week saw my state wrestling with the ravaging effects of a severe ice storm. This ice storm robbed over a half-million people of power and forced them to seek shelter with relatives, friends, or local agencies so as to keep warm. I was one of those people. My power went out on last Wednesday and did not get restored until Sunday afternoon. In the meantime, I stayed with my brother for two days and my mother for two days. The Writing Life

I went to my fiction writing class, not really knowing what to expect (sort of). I didn't know what sort of writers would be in this class with me, but for awhile, I was totally overawed to be in their presence. I, who began writing at age nine, was overawed, paralyzed by the talent that was in that room.

Among the eight of us, there are writers of every genre....historical fiction, historical romance, pulp fiction, contemporary fiction, memoir, and children's literature. The...

Something to Keep Me Busy

Aside from walking every day...which does a lot for my physical and emotional well-being, I will take a fiction writing course starting tonight until March 5 through a local writing center. Then...on February 23, I will sit in on a nonfiction course, which, according to the center's newsletter, promises to teach its participants how to "write compelling feature articles for newspapers and magazines."

I am excited about doing more writing because I haven't done much lately...aside...
