Roger's blogging from Tokyo. I foresee a million "Rafa's was better than Roger's" "Nuh uh!" exchanges in GM. Should be entertaining.

Hope they let Marat blog from Paris.

Marat in Bangkok

Posted 09-30-2006 at 05:54 PM by atheneglaukopis
So he made his third semis of the year. Still struggling, but making progress if you ask me. Still no confidence, but what else is new? Indoor season will allow him to get his ranking back up, and hopefully he can meet his goal of an AO 07 seed. He went into the US Open ranked 104, and after just that and Bangkok, he should be ranked in the vicinity of 60 with still nothing to defend. Patience and baby steps, I keep telling myself, patience and baby steps.

Nine is an even better number than eight!

Roger dropped two sets? I blame the crowd. Six consecutive Grand Slam finals, and winning five of them is awe-inspiring.

The worst part of this tournament is that only one match was streamed (legally) in the states, so I only got to see Hewitt/Gasquet. Oh well, better luck with the streaming next year. Hopefully, as I keep saying and saying, the Wimbledon Mediazone deal will catch on.

Was (these tennis-generated emotions pass quickly) very upset about Haas...

They keep winning!

Posted 09-04-2006 at 10:55 PM by atheneglaukopis
Safin defeated Rochus in a rare straight-sets win from him, and Haas almost lost after being up two sets to love but pulled it out in a fifth-set tiebreak. Revenge! I would like to see those two play each other tomorrow, but unfortunately it's not going to happen. I have my fingers crossed that one of them will make it to the semis against Federer. Federer of course is drifting serenely along, strewing bagels in his wake, and has not been causing me any emotional stress, for which I thank...
