It's not often you see Federer df on set point. He's getting outplayed, and he's yelled at himself. My poor stuffed dog is saying plaintively to me, "I thought Hippo was done for the season!" as he gets clutched and clenched and squeezed.

Marat at 26 right now, into the quarterfinals--wow, this has been one wacked draw-redrawing--and playing Tommy tomorrow, who did a stand-up job of demolishing Blake.

Now wouldn't it be just spiffy if I could actually see them play, but alas. The Indo-European conference is all day tomorrow, and I'll be listening to some--hopefully very interesting--talks on Latin while they're playing. Marat won after being a set and a break down yesterday, for which I am very proud of him. AO seed now virtually guaranteed, which is a huge relief.

Now, will the 2000, 2002, 2004 pattern hold? We shall see.
