Marat, I ask you. Was all that pain and suffering and DRAMA necessary to beat a qualifier in the second round? I did watch this one, with Nastasie, and it was agonizing. Quotes from me (I haven't asked for permission to quote her) in our chat.

Oh god. <tears eyes away from scoreboard>
10:00 PM Nyet! Nyet, Marat!

me: I have the feeling it's going to be a loooong night

me: Uh oh.
Eeeep!
10:02 PM Okay, I will close out...

Marat likes tennis after midnight too.

At 5:30 am I wake up with hunger and find it 2-2 40-40 in the fifth. Does Marat not realize how hard it is to eat when following his matches? Broke just as I started watching, though, and held his lead until 6-4. Or I would be a gibbering mess right now.

Middle of the night again

Posted 01-15-2007 at 06:48 AM by atheneglaukopis
Scoreboards should not be this endlessly fascinating at midnight when I'm tired and none of my favorites is playing or even due for a couple hours.

Roger won, check, straight sets, check, bagel, check. Baghdatis (I love spelling that) won, check. Marat's going to win in a couple hours...

Sleep now, sleep!

Coach

Right, I would have mentioned this earlier except their stories have been so inconsistent I don't want to get too excited, but Marat said in his Kooyong press conference that Sasha Volkov will be with him for the slams and Masters Series, which I'm pretty happy about. He seems to be what Marat needs right now, in that he has a lot of the qualities other coaches have lacked at least one of:

1. Being a friend, since that's almost a prereq for even getting Marat to listen to you; additionally...
