What's going on, Jarkko?

Posted 05-11-2006 at 12:36 PM by el güero
Nieminen lost to Stepanek in Rome, a match everyone thought he should and would win easily. Sure, Radek is a tough fella but Jarkko had beaten him twice before, the other one indoors. Clay should've played straight to Nieminen's strenghts.

What is this? Is Jarkko starting to lose his great momentum, built up since USO 2005? Last week's awful loss in Munich against Vliegen could be dismissed as flu and overall tiredness, but he seemed to have fully recovered, beating Grosjean (surprisingly)...

Safin is back -- now what?

He came into the tournament through quallies, and impressively made his way through the draw beating Kristian Pless, Younes, ToJo and Enqvist. And the 5-set final itself against the top form Sjeng Schalken was an instant classic. Losing the title from 4-love up...

Reflections on 2005

In Finland it's really hard to keep in touch with what happens in tennis. Of course you got the Internet (and MTF!), but for me tennis is really about watching it, and watching it LIVE. Unfortunately, Jarkko's success has not lead to much more tv coverage of tennis in Finnish channels.

That is why I missed, for instance, the great finish to the season by David and Roger. I'm so glad about the result, though. I have so much respect and admiration for Roger's amazing talent, but it's...
