Austrian tennis player, Thomas Muster, has retired from the professional game, after his recent loss to Dominic Thiem in the Austrian Open. The left-handed player lost the match 6-2, 6-3, in what was his 896th appearance on a tennis court. "I didn't know whether to cry, or to play", the 44-year-old said, in the wake of his final match.

Bernard Tomic has not only shown promise in 2011, but he looks to confirm that he is the real deal when it comes to making a big impact on the ATP Tour.

Just as Australian tennis looked to be on the wane, the 18-year-old has picked it up by the scruff of the neck and dragged it into focus once again....

The 2011 season in men's tennis has belonged to Novak Djokovic and his achievements are likely to go down in history among the annuls of world sport.

The Serbian star has captured 10 titles, including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the French Open Grand Slams, and has lost only two matches all year – with one of them the result of having to withdraw through injury.

He has dominated everyone in the rankings including Rafa Nadal – a powerful star many thought was...
