Sports fans who made the safe gambit of betting on the 'usual suspects' to reach the third round of the Paris Masters were duly rewarded today, when Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and David Ferrer defeated their opponents to advance to the next stage. Czech tennis star Tomas Berdych is closing in on qualifying for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, but how far can he expect to go in London where the top eight players in world tennis battle to see who is the victor.

The 26-year-old only needs to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters and now only needs to beat either 11th seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia or American Alex Bogomolov Jr in the next round to make sure of his appearance at the O2.

Spanish tennis ace, Rafael Nadal, has disappointed fans of the BNP Paribas Paris Masters, by withdrawing from the competition. The player says that he wants to concentrate on the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals, which kick off on November 20 in London, and the Davis Cup final, beginning November 28.
