Andy Murray's decision to pull out of the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals is disappointing for people who bet on tennis but seemed to be the only realistic option open to the Wimbledon champion.

Murray's injury woes returned after the US Open and, after a memorable year, he decided to take some time out to recover from the back problem which flared up again at Flushing Meadows.

The name Roger Federer is synonymous with the game of tennis. He is the grand master of tennis, with a record 17 Grand Slam titles and 77 titles in total to his name. Federer’s star quality is starting to wane, though, leaving people wondering if he is capable of winning a Grand Slam title again.

World number eight, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, is still aiming for a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals in November in London, despite missing large parts of this season through injury.

The Frenchman has to miss the US Open with the same knee problem that saw him withdraw from his second round encounter with Ernests Gulbis at Wimbledon back in June.

Tsonga faces strong competition for one of the final spots including from Milos Raonic who claimed his fifth title of his career...

The aftermath of Federer and Murray's defeats in the US Open 2013 got me thinking:

This year since the end of the Miami Masters (even during that - Ferrer had match points against Murray but lost) has been VERY weird. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this year, no one has exceeded 3 titles this year - except Nadal. In From what I remember the Madrid Masters SF list was not your usual Clay SFers - except for Nadal. It had the upsets of Federer and Djokovic, the upsetters are the young...
