Serena Williams will definitely end 2013 as world number one after an impressive calendar year which has seen her win two Grand Slams to bring her career tally to 17.

The 32-year old won only her second French Open at Roland Garros earlier in the season and then followed that up with a success in her home slam, the US Open.

World number eight, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, is still aiming for a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals in November in London, despite missing large parts of this season through injury.

The Frenchman has to miss the US Open with the same knee problem that saw him withdraw from his second round encounter with Ernests Gulbis at Wimbledon back in June.

The Brit defeated number 11 seed Kei Nishikori earlier this week and continued his excellent season on the hard courts in North America with the 3-1 win over the Australian.

After winning the opening set 6-1 it looked as though Tomic was going to be on course for a comfortable afternoon against the world number 179. However, Evans soon levelled with the second...

Andy Murray is heading into the US Open next week in a much better position than 12 months ago.

The pressure should be off the British number one's shoulders somewhat after he managed to finally claim a Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows at the end of last summer before he then followed it up with his memorable triumph at Wimbledon.

In one sense, Murray has now proved to his doubters in the tennis betting that he can do it when it matters most and the fact he now...
