Former Australian Open quarter-finalist James Blake has been forced to withdraw from the opening Grand Slam of 2012 with ‘personal reasons’ being given as the reason. Roger Federer has picked up where he left off, as his start to the new year has seen him record his 20th straight win as he continues his run of form going into the Australian Open, making him a favorite with online bets.

Gael Monfils says he will use this week's Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi to try out some new shots as he prepares for the Australian Open next month.

Andy Murray became only the seventh man in the Open era to reach the semi-final of all four Grand Slams in once season in 2011, including the French Open at Roland Garros.

The British number one has yet to win his maiden Grand Slam title but he has been in three finals now, beaten twice by Roger Federer and denied by Novak Djokovic in the other.

Maria Sharapova hopes to be fit enough to take part in next month’s Australian Open despite being forced to withdraw from the Brisbane International because of an ankle injury.
