Reigning world-number one Novak Djokovic has paid praise to Bernard Tomic – who has taken the mantle from Lleyton Hewitt as the Australia’s next great hope. Andrea Petkovic, who had been set to be the tenth seed at the Australian Open, has had to pull out of the tournament due to a back injury.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic has been handed the top seed in this month’s Australian Open which gets underway on January 16.

The Serbian defeated Andy Murray in the final at Melbourne Park 12 months ago and went on to win Wimbledon and the US Open in an extraordinary year of live tennisfor the world number one.
