Andy Roddick admits he has lower expectations than usual at this month's Australian Open after struggling with injuries and poor form for the last 12 months.

World number five David Ferrer has painted a grim picture for anyone wanting to challenge the 'big four' in the Grand Slams this year as he believes they are on "another level" to the rest.

The Australian Open has got at least one of the men's singles semi final they clamoured for with number two seed Rafael Nadal winning through his quarter final against Tomas Berdych to face his one time nemesis, the third seed, Roger Federer.

The ongoing 100th edition of the Australian Open got underway on the 16th of January 2012. Half of the players that remain in the competition are battling it out in the third round, with the other half making their way into the fourth round of the tournament.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic secured his place in the Australian Open quarter-finals after battling to a four-set victory against home favourite Lleyton Hewitt 6-1 6-3 4-6 6-3.
