Rafael Nadal has rejected claims he is struggling with his fitness ahead of the Australian Open and says his problem shoulder is in ‘perfect condition’ ahead of the tournament in Melbourne.

Spain captain Alex Corretja has named a completely new team to the one that won the Davis Cup in December for this month's first round tie with Kazakhstan in Oviedo.

Nicolas Almagro, Marcel Granollers, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marc Lopez will represent Spain in the tie which will take place between 10-12 February, while the team that beat Argentina 3-1 less than two months ago included Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco.

Although in 2011 Novak Djokovic experienced the most successful and enjoyable year of his career to date, he now knows all too well that his position at the top of the tennis tree is going to be placed under significant threat this year from the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who are desperate to reassert their authority, as well as Andy Murray, a man keen to start letting his tennis do the talking after being hyped up for so many years now for so little end result.

There is no doubt that Andy Murray is the player being placed under the most pressure to succeed in the Australian Open this year, with the Scot aiming to win his first major Grand Slam trophy, but there is another man down under who may be feeling more personal pressure to succeed at the start of the 2012 live tennis season than any other, albeit for very different reasons, and that man is Roger Federer.
