Juan Carlos Ferrero’s decision to quit tennis after the Valencia Open exposes the huge strains players are put under during year-long tours, as the former French Open champion becomes the third high-profile retirement of the summer.

Ferrero, who missed out on the US Open this month, has endured an injury-hit season that has seen his world ranking fall to 111. The Spaniard admitted that the intensity of the tour has forced his decision to retire.

It has taken 76 years but, at last, a British man has won a Grand Slam singles title and, according to Andy Murray, winning the US Open “means the world” to him.

Murray didn’t make it easy for himself in defeating Novak Djokovic. Having been two sets up, he then lost sets three and four, before winning the final set of an epic contest, which lasted almost five hours.

Having recently been defeated in the final at Wimbledon, Murray should take great credit for his victory...

Andy Murray’s coach, Ivan Lendl, has revealed that he thinks that Murray is finally ready to take the next step in his career and win his first Grand Slam.
After reaching his first Wimbledon final back in July and then winning the men’s singles at the Olympics, Lendl thinks that the experience that Murray has gained this year will put him in great stead to win the US Open final on Monday night.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has revealed that he may still be some time away from a return to competitive action, much to the disappointment of his fans from within the Betfair tennis community.

The 11-time major winner is currently sitting out the US Open, having already missed the chance to defend his Olympic title in London due to a knee injury, and he is desperate to get back into action soon.

We are, indeed, lucky to be in the era of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Not only because they are all so jaw-droppingly good, which of course they are, but also because there are precisely four of them.

If there were just three dominating the scene, it would be perhaps just half as exciting – three match-up combination possibilities instead of six. Only two slugging out Slam after Slam would become pretty boring pretty quickly and just one man winning...
